MOD is thrilled to be kicking off the New Year with the addition of Mama Lil’s sweet hot peppers – Hungarian Goathorn Peppers, grown in the Northwest and soaked in a sweet brine of vinegar, sugar, garlic, maple syrup, fennel seed and salt. What could be a more perfect match for pizza (or salads for that matter)?
And yes, there really was a Mama Lil. Her delicious recipe for pickled peppers was born from the timeless tradition of immigrants sharing family recipes. Mama Lil, who was of Jewish Romanian descent, got the recipe from a Serbian friend, who got it from a Slovenian who was lucky enough to have discovered the recipe from the Italians – what a journey! Fortunately for us, Mama Lil’s son, Howard, couldn’t get enough of the peppers growing up and decided to keep the tradition alive by starting the Mama Lil’s line.
On top of developing incredible products, Mama Lil’s is all about giving back, and are active supporters of the Trellis Center, a non-profit in the Yakima Valley. Trellis Center is an inspiring program with a mission to support adults with autism as they puruse self-employment opportunities – including gardening. Produce from Trellis Center is sold in farmers markets and soon they’ll even be growing Mama Lil’s signature Hungarian Hot Wax Goathorn Peppers!
Ready to try Mama Lil’s for yourself? Stop by MOD and try her sweet hot peppers on our feature pizza, the Winston, which is also topped with white sauce, mozzarella, chicken jalapeno sausage, asiago and rosemary. Not feeling the Winston? No problem! You can add them to any pizza or salad you like… after all, MOD is what you make it!
