Superfast Pizza Brand Part of Airport Expansion of Food and Retail Shops
SEATTLE, Wash (September 15, 2014) – MOD Pizza today announced that they are bringing their artisan-style, made on demand pizza to Portland International Airport in 2015. As part of the Port of Portland’s expansion of airport concessions, MOD will open in the C Concourse with a temporary kiosk on January 1, 2015, with their permanent store opening in April 2015.
“We are thrilled to have been chosen as one of several Northwest brands to serve guests travelling through Portland International Airport. More than anything, we look forward to sharing our delicious pizza and unique culture with travelers from around the globe,” noted Scott Svenson, co-founder and CEO of MOD Pizza. “As we grow, we continue to seek unique sites that allow us to connect with people in settings where we can showcase our amazing food, locally inspired store design and our unique style of MOD service. The Portland Airport will be a perfect fit.”
The award-winning PDX concessions theme is based on offering the best of the Northwest in addition to popular national brands. “We welcome these exciting new shops and restaurants to our airport family,” said Chris Czarnecki, Port General Manager of aviation business and properties. “We searched far and wide to bring these great options to our travelers, speaking to some 250 individuals interested in operating at PDX.”
MOD currently operates 20 stores in Washington, Oregon, California, Arizona and Colorado, with more than 30 stores slated to be open across eight markets by the end of 2014. In addition to leading with a strong company development plan, MOD launched their franchise program which is open to a limited number of partners in select markets across the US. MOD Franchising
MOD’s individual artisan-style pizzas are made on demand, using organic fresh-pressed dough and signature sauces. Guests can create their own pizzas and salads, using any combination of 30 featured toppings, or they can choose from a menu of MOD classics. Pizzas and salads are the same price regardless of the number of toppings. Pizzas are hand-cooked in an 800 degree oven in less than 3 minutes and salads are hand-tossed in front of the customer. MOD also serves local draft beers, wine, handspun milkshakes, and house-made lemonades and iced teas.
Seattle-based MOD Pizza, founded in 2008 by Scott and Ally Svenson, was inspired by the couple’s love of Italian street-style pizza, their desire for authentic, affordable and fast dining options for their busy family and the idea that a great company could be built around people. Above all, MOD is about putting people first – both guest and team members – and is striving to redefine the fast food experience.
The Svensons bring their experience from building two highly successful concepts in the UK – Seattle Coffee Company (acquired by Starbucks) and Carluccio’s. MOD’s team of advisors and executives bring additional experience from iconic brands such as Starbucks, Apple, Panera Bread, Disney, T-Mobile, Dunkin Donuts, Qdoba, McDonald’s and Schwartz Brothers Restaurants.
MOD is committed to creating not just a cool place to eat, but an inspired place to work. The company has been recognized as one of the “Top 50 Breakout Brands” by Nation’s Restaurant News, named one of the “Fastest Growing Private Companies in America” by Inc.
